 Thrikkarthika

        India is a land of festivals.Each state has their idegenous festivals and therefore the cultural diversity of India is reflected in every festivals.
Thrikkarthika is one such festival which is celebrated in Tamilnadu and Kerala.The "aithihya" behind thrikkarthika varies from place to place.The Tamils give importance to god Karthikeya( Sree muruka) whereas Malayalis give importance to goddess Karthyayani who is the incarnation of  SreeParvathy.

     In kerala Thrikkarthika is celebrated in karthika nakshathra of vrishchika.Generally this day will be a full moon day.People decorates their homes with traditional lights called "cherath".But today, most of the people replaces cherath by candles.Special poojas will be conducted in temples on this day.

     Southern parts of Kerala celebrates Trikkarthika very differently.They make a

special lamp using plantain stem and leaves of coconut tree to place in front of their houses.Torches made up of coconut spathe is placed by farmers in their fields.Boiled tubers and tender coconut will be  the special food item for dinner.Like every festivals, Thrikkarthika is also celebrated for the well being of mankind.It imparts happiness and peace to everyone's mind.
